Now that I am certified how do I:

Build a clientele?

Now we are getting down to business!  Building a clientele takes time so remember to be patient.  Before I had any clients I had lots of time and friends so I offered free classes and private lessons to everyone I knew.  This was great for me because I got extra practice hours and it was good for my friends and family so they could try pilates to see what it all about.  Even if those friends couldn’t commit to paying for classes they told other people about pilates and my classes.  They were the best word of mouth advertising!

When I first started teaching Pilates I was single and not yet a mom so time was not a luxury.  I was eager to teach as much as possible so I would schedule anyone who wanted pilates anytime they wanted it.  I would teach a 7am class, take a class myself, get breakfast, teach a lunchtime class, hang out with the other teachers and then finish off my day with an evening private lesson.  I only recommend this way of building your schedule if you have lots of freedom.

For everyone else I suggest blocking out the hours you want to work and then work to fill those hours by always being available during the block.  When you are not teaching during that block, be proactive in getting clients by taking classes, meeting people, telling everyone you teach pilates, hanging out at your studio and making yourself available.

Building a clientele does take time so be patient and stay positive.
