Now that I am a new Instructor, How do I get started?

Now that I am a Newly Certified Pilates Instructor How do I get started?

Hi!  I am going to address new Pilates Instructors over the next several weeks.  I love mentoring new instructors because I remember exactly what it’s like to be freshly certified and not quite sure what to do next.  This week I will answer the big question of how do I get started?

So you just completed a test, turned in all the hours of training, observing and practice teaching and you are confident in your knowledge but not sure how to move forward… what next?  First you should decide what platform you want to teach in, are you leaning towards virtual teaching or in studio teaching?  Today I am going to focus on In-studio teaching mostly.  Find a studio that you love, that has the same Pilates values and style that you have and see if they are hiring!  In my experience, it’s hard to find good Instructors so if you can teach you will get a shot!  Building a following can take a while so be patient!  If your studio allows you to teach your friends and family for free - do it!  Have your friends and family bring their friends and family for a free session… start getting your name out there.  When I first started teaching I wasn’t married and I didn’t have kids so I took clients in the morning, afternoons and evenings, whenever they were available.  This is another good way to get your name out there but keep in mind that you will burn out after a while so keep your ideal schedule in mind and work to fill in your clients at those times.  I also recommend finding a good mentor.  I had a couple great mentors who I trusted to help guide me.  Lastly, keep taking classes from a variety of Instructors and keep practicing!  More hours make you a better teacher and better prepared to teach lots of different clients.  If you have any questions feel free to reach out, I would love to help you on your pilates journey.

High Fives & Hugs
